3:58 pm - Hi. :)

Hi! I'm new, so I just thought I'd introduce myself? I'm 18, I'm from NY, and I've been dancing for about 6 years (though since coming to college, all I can find is hip-hop lessons, sadly).  I've been a vegetarian since I was about 12.

About shoes - I've often gone barefoot for several months while I wait for special-ordered non-leather jazz and ballet shoes to come in from Australia and Russia. XD  (Crazy?  ....Yes.)

For people looking for veggie shoes - just Google "vegan dance shoes."  It works surprisingly well.  :)

So nice to meet you all!!!

current mood: accomplished

3:10 pm - Jete` (or any jump, really)

I am not a tall person. In fact, I would call myself short. Very, very short. So when my instructor says “your jete` is not high enough” I grimace. Some dance schools in the area put ankle weights on when you don’t jump high, but it trashes dancer’s knees so our school doesn’t. My problem is, what else can I do to get higher?

I get high for a person of my stature, but I cannot compete with these tall, wiry dancers who can jump eight feet in the air like it’s nothing. Somebody please help me.

4:22 am - Goodbye Suddenly

Hi my name is George Wong, I'm a vegan actor and chef from Toronto, Canada, currently living in NYC. You can join Facebook, profile name georgie boy, if you want to see pics of my vegan food (and ask for recipes). This is my first music video of me dancing to a mix of music of Nancy Sinatra (remix), Gigi D'agostino, Hellogoodbye, and Gloworm.
It's a closure piece for my last relationship.

4:12 pm - amazing piece of... dance?

OMG! I just watched this awesome dance piece. It was performed live at the AVN award this last year and is breathtaking. The composition is dope as heck and the story is right up my… errr um alley.

It’s NSFW because one particular dancer is nude, so if you are under 18 I’m not sure this would be a good link to click:
However it doesn’t contain any sexual imagery. The dancers are beautiful as all hell and I can’t believe their bodies! Performing a dance performance at the AVN awards it’s kind of my new dream at this point.

11:12 am - Nataraja Ecstatic Dance

Oh, what an interesting idea for a community!

I'm a vegan in Austin, TX, and I'm the organizer of a new weekly event here called Nataraja Ecstatic Dance. For any Austinites around here, it is similar in objective to Body Choir. The biggest differences are that there is a theme to the music at each dance and it's a more intimate space (room for 30-40 dancers instead of 70+). It's happening every Sunday night, 7:30-9:15, at the Khabele Studio at 701 W. 7th St. This Sunday is Latin & Tango Night; hope to see some of you there!

12:50 pm - hi, i'm new

hi, i'm sandi and i am a newb at ballet (i do other dance too, but am starting ballet).  that's just background b/c i'm new, not what this post is about.

actual subject:
i am also a color guard member.  (color guard is the people who dance with flags in marching band)   and we have band camp in a few weeks (uggh, choreography around people with loud instruments).  i was wondering if anyone could suggest something to give me energy for 12 hour rehearsals (give or take) without being fattening.  (i really need to cinch my waistline right now, i haven't been doing dance at all lately)

Hey everyone, I just joined :]

Question, which I know has been asked before but never really answered - SHOES. Where have you guys gotten non-leather ones? The only site I've found that offers them, the line is being discontinued.

I've had my (leather) jazz shoes for a long time and they have big holes in them. I really need a new pair, but can't find anything non-leather.

9:08 pm - Dance and Injury

I just sent this email to my psychologist friends, and perhaps you folks would have an idea or two on the subject:

At some point for physical therapy (I'm working towards getting into a graduate physical therapy program)I'm going to have to take a class about the psychology of the disabled. What I'm wondering is does there exist an area of psychology that deals with the psychology of athletes and non-permanent injuries? I just wonder because I have to deal with my own unnecessary mental babbling whenever I get slightly injured or am too sore to dance full-out. This morning, for instance, my left knee was not all that pleased. I had to stop dancing twenty minutes before class was over because the piece we were working on was too much for it. I knew at the time that nothing serious was happening and that my teacher could probably tell I wasn't feeling up to par, but I still get very depressed or at least very critical and just mean to myself whenever I stop dancing because of pain. I know it's stupid to dance despite feelings of pain and that's why I don't do it. Every time, though, I always feel like I'm coping-out and making an excuse to be lazy. Crazy talk, I know. I'd like to read up on this, if possible. If you have any leads of where or whose writing I could start looking in to, that would be swell.

Hi all,

Follow or cut and paste the link to a really comprehensive website about nutrition info: probably will be helpful for vegans, vegetarians and semi-vegs alike.

What are the best vitamins/suppliments to take when you are a vegan and you know you are probably not going to get a balanced diet?

Where do you guys get your dance shoes?

All the shoes i've found thusfar are leather. :\ I'm talking about either ballet slippers or some other form of shoe for say modern dance or something. Thanks!
